Diabetes Diets Can Be Fun

If you suffer from diabetes you may feel that you cannot eat good food but that is not the case, there are many excellent diabetes diet recipes nowadays. Being in control of your diet is a good thing whether you have diabetes or not, and it can reduce the risk of you contracting it, but as most diabetics know, it is a good way to help improve the symptoms if you do. If you are living with diabetes, one of the best ways to fight this disease is with a diabetic diet plan.

Weight is generally a problem when you are a diabetic and the goal is to get that weight off and keep it off. Another important thing to remember is to eat a healthily from all four food groups and keeping to you diabetic diet.

For patients, having a healthy diabetic diet plan means eating in a way that reduces the risk for complications that are commonly associated with their conditions, including heart disease and stroke. The diabetic diet plan is after all, low-fat and has been formulated to increase energy and at the same time ease the symptoms of tiredness, thirst and blurred vision.

There is a diabetic food pyramid that shows how to eat healthily by consuming vegetables, non-fat dairy products, whole grains, fruit, low fat meat, beans, fish and poultry. In low-carb diets, the foods that are approved are meats, fish, poultry, eggs and cheese and certain vegetables like kidney beans, carrots, avocados. Diabetic diets should include foods that are low in saturated fats and cholesterol, such as skinless poultry, fresh fruit, and vegetables as previously mentioned.

Weighing your food when you're on a diabetic diet is as important as the foods you consume so you receive the correct amount of calories. If you have a 2,000 calorie diet you will find essential information on the food labels when you're sopping as the amounts shown are based on this daily calorie figure.

For example, your breakfast on 2,000 calorie diabetic diet might consist of something like this, a cup of skimmed milk or sugar free yoghurt, a couple of slices of bread, rice cakes or pasta if you prefer, an egg prepared your favorite way and a serving of fruit. If you required a breakfast based on a 1,800 calorie diabetic diet then you r meal might consist of something like a cup of skimmed milk with a couple of slices of bread, a small amount of cheese (about a tablespoon) and a serving of fresh fruit which could be apple, banana, orange or the like.

With your balanced diet you would be able to have an afternoon snack which could be some fruit and a couple of crackers washed down with a half cup of tea or coffee but only with artificial sweeteners. There are alternatives available so the tea or coffee could be exchanged for yoghurt or a cup of skimmed milk. It is just a matter of knowing your diabetic diet well because it doesn't have to be boring.
